Movie genres: Movies can be classified according to the setting, mood, format and their target audience.

Setting: The location of the movie or the time frame can be the setting of the movie. A specific theme can also be a setting. The film genres based on the setting can be crime, fantasy, history, science fiction, war or sports.

Mood: The mood refers to the emotions the movie brings out. These can be classified as action, adventure, comedy, horror, romance and thriller.

Format: Format refers to the typical manner in which a movie is shot. It can also depend on the equipment used to shoot a movie. The genres include animation, biography, documentary and musical.

Target audience: Movies are specially made for a specific kind of audience. Based on that, they can be classified as children's movies, adult movies and family movies.
